Bedrohen neue Medien Intimität? Oft wird besonders an der zunehmenden Internetkommunikation die Aufrechterhaltung von intimen Beziehungen problematisiert. Zwar kann das web dabei helfen Kontaktmöglichkeiten gravierend zu erleichtern, es stellt sich jedoch die Frage nach deren sozialer Qualität. Eine technologisch unterstützte Fernkommunikation ist auf den ersten Blick geradezu der Gegensatz zu intimem Erleben, das bisher an räumliche Nähe der Akteure gebunden warfare. Die Beiträge des Bandes versammeln Studien, die diesem scheinbaren Gegensatz genauer nachgehen. Dabei wird aus unterschiedlichen Blickwinkeln der Zusammenhang von intimen Beziehungen und neuen Kommunikationsformen fokussiert. Im Vordergrund steht jeweils das Spannungsverhältnis zwischen körperbasiertem Erleben und technologisch hergestellten Distanzen. Das Ziel der Studien ist es, zu einer empirisch gehaltvollen, näheren Bestimmung von sozialen Wandlungsprozessen durch digitale Medien beizutragen.
